‘Half A Sixpence’ ging deze week in première in Chichester. De klassieker gebaseerd op de roman ‘Kipps The Story Of A Simple Soul’ van H.G. Wells en met muziek van Beverley Cross en David Heneker is voor de 2016 versie opgepoetst. Julian Fellowes schreef het script en de musical kent nieuwe muziek en teksten van George Stiles en Anthony Drewe.

Als we de geruchten mogen geloven is ‘Half A Sixpence’ na de run in Chichester die eindigt op 3 september te zien in het Noël Coward Theatre. Zou logisch zijn gezien het feit dat Cameron Mackintosh nauw bij de musical betrokken is en er voor het Noël Coward dat eigendom is van Mackintosh nog geen nieuwe productie is aangekondigd.

Het zou erg leuk zijn om Emma Williams en Ian Bartholomew zo kort na ‘Mrs Henderson Presents’ weer in dat theater te kunnen zien !

De West End transfer van ‘Half A Sixpence’ is te zien in het Noël Coward Theatre. De previews beginnen op 29 oktober, de première is op 17 november. De kaartverkoop opent morgen.

Following rave reviews and a record-breaking run in Chichester, Cameron Mackintosh is delighted to announce the West End transfer of the critically acclaimed hit musical “HALF A SIXPENCE” - which he co-produced with Chichester Festival Theatre - introducing the sensational new star Charlie Stemp as Arthur Kipps. Performances will commence at the Noël Coward Theatre from 29 October 2016, with press night on 17 November 2016. The first booking period is on sale until 11 February 2017.

The entire Chichester cast will transfer to the West End, starring newcomers Charlie Stemp as ‘Arthur Kipps’ and Devon-Elise Johnson as ‘Ann Pornick’ — alongside three times Olivier-nominated actor Ian Bartholomew as ‘Chitterlow’ and three times Olivier-nominated actress Emma Williams as ‘Helen Walsingham’.

This new stage version of “HALF A SIXPENCE”, the musical adaptation of H.G. Wells’s semi- autobiographical novel ‘Kipps: The Story of a Simple Soul’, is a completely fresh adaptation which reunites book-writer Julian Fellowes (Oscar-winning screenwriter and creator of Downton Abbey) with George Stiles and Anthony Drewe, the musical team that co-creator Cameron Mackintosh first put together to create the hit stage adaptation of “Mary Poppins” with Disney. The score is inspired by and features several of composer David Heneker’s exhilarating songs from the original production, including ‘Flash Bang Wallop’, ‘Money To Burn’ and ‘Half A Sixpence’.
Arthur Kipps, an orphan and over-worked draper’s assistant at the turn of the last century, unexpectedly inherits a fortune that propels him into high society. His childhood companion, Ann Pornick, watches with dismay as Arthur is made over in a new image by the beautiful and classy Helen Walsingham. Both young women undoubtedly love Arthur — but which of them should he listen to? With the help of his friends, Arthur learns that if you want to have the chance of living the right life, you need to make the right choices.

Na de performance op West End Live en het meermaals horen van sommige songs, heb ik echt super blij dat ik Half a Sixpence heb gezien.

Het is lang geleden dat ik zo’n fantastische show heb gezien. Meestal gaat het publiek pas staan als de leads op komen maar nee hier al vanaf de curtain call.

We hadden last minute na het niet winnen van de loterij van BoM, goedkope kaarten op rij E (3) bijna in het midden. Een beetje omhoog kijken maar verder helemaal prima.

Charlie was echt fenomenaal. Halverwege act 1 had hij zichzelf een smak gegeven en deed de rest van de show met een bloedende plek in z’n mond. Zijn acteren was erg prettig, zijn zang perfect en dans top. Echt een triple threat.

De hele show zat vol geweldige energie, prachtige kostuums en een decor zat slim in elkaar (nog duidelijk de rondingen van het podium van Chichester te zien)

Als je in London bent voor t einde op 2 September, GA DIT ZIEN!!! Echt!
