Deze week zijn de nominaties bekend gemaakt voor de Olivier Awards 2018. ‘Hamilton’ is koploper met 13 nominaties en verbreekt daarmee het nominatierecord van 11 dat werd gezet door ‘Hairspray’ (2008) en ‘Harry Potter And The Cursed Child’ (2017). Ook ‘Follies’ van het National Theatre doet het goed met 10 nominaties en qua toneel is ‘The Ferryman’ de aanvoerder met 8 nominaties. De prijzen worden uitgereikt op 8 april in de Royal Albert Hall.

Wat mij betreft is het wel opvallend en jammer dat ‘The Grinning Man’ en ‘Romantics Anonymous’ geen enkele nominatie krijgen, evenals ‘Pinocchio’ al stond die niet op de long list voor musical maar toneel. Beetje vreemd.

Niet uniek. Sterker nog: het is Imelda al eerder overkomen. In 1988 was genomineerd voor The Wizard of Oz en Uncle Vanya.

En Londen hypet dus lekker met Broadway mee.
Was te verwachten, maar als zelfs Jason Pennycooke genomineerd wordt kan ik deze niet al te serieus meer nemen.
