Broadway musical Waitress to get West End premiere next springSara Bareilles’ Broadway musical Waitress is set to get its West End premiere when it opens at the Adelphi Theatre next spring.
Based on the 2007 film written by Adrienne Shelly, Waitress opened in New York at Broadway’s Brooks Atkinson Theater. It follows the story of a pie-maker called Jenna who longs for a way to escape her loveless marriage, when a baking contest in a nearby town presents her with the perfect opportunity.
Waitress will run at the Adelphi Theatre from February 2019, with tickets on sale this autumn.
When it opened in the US, the musical starred Jessie Mueller, known for playing the lead role in Beautiful: The Carole King Musical. Casting for the West End run is yet to be announced.
Bareilles is a six-time Grammy nominee and is possibly best-known for her 2007 hit “Love Songâ€, and also recently appeared in a US telecast of Andrew Lloyd Webber’s Jesus Christ Superstar.
Announcing the musical’s London run, Bareilles said: “We are so proud of this beautiful show, and can’t wait to share the story of Jenna with a whole new audience and welcome them into the world of Waitress with open arms and plenty of pieâ€.
