‘The Boy Friend’ wordt de nieuwe musical in het komende seizoen in de Chocolate Factory en is te zien van 22 november 2019 tot en met 7 maart 2020.

Sandy Wilson’s all-singing all-dancing love letter to 1920s musical comedies returns for the first major London revival in over 10 years.  Set in Madame Dubonnet’s finishing school in the south of France, these perfect young ladies burst into song at the least provocation, and forbidden boy friends are forever popping through the French windows to sing and dance with them. Since its premiere in 1953, this light-hearted soufflé of a show has delighted audiences worldwide and has become one of the most well-loved British musicals of all time.

The Boy Friend opened in London in 1953, before a West End run in 1954, and ran for more than 5 years. The subsequent Broadway run in 1954 made a star of the then-unknown Julie Andrews.

The Boy Friend (Revival in het Old Vic Theatre) was mijn allereerste musical in Londen.
Voor £ 4,00 op het tweede balkon 😊 Pond was in 1984 Æ’ 4,27 dus bijna € 2,00 nu € 1,10.
Maand later zag ik Ping Ping (de laatste musical van Annie M.G.) in Carré voor Æ’ 30,00. (Hoe zo Londen duur)

Ik heb er nog steeds erg goede herinneringen aan, vrolijke liedjes, prachtig decor en kleding en een liefdesverhaaltje die je al mijlen ver ziet aankomen.
Ook zaten er een paar namen in die later best bekend zijn geworden.

Met mijn kersverse partner hadden we een hotelletje bij Russel Square in de wijk Bloomsburry en toen het pauzenummer “A room in Bloomsbury” werd gezongen kon deze avond voor ons al niet meer stuk.
Alleen al uit sentimentele redenen gaan wij (nog steeds dezelfde) deze voorstelling zien 😊

Nog meer sentiment, ik heb de LP gekocht bij Dress Circle die toen nog in Covent Garden een winkeltje hadden.

Wat een fijn verhaal. Ja daar moet je wel naar toe natuurlijk! Ik heb ‘The Boy Friend’ nooit eerder gezien dus dit wordt de eerste keer.

De cast belooft in ieder geval veel goeds !

Tiffany Graves is Hortense. She returns to the Menier Chocolate Factory after having appeared in Sweet Charity. Other theatre credits include The Wild Party (The Other Palace), The Producers (UK tour) & Chicago (Cambridge Theatre).

Dylan Mason is Tony. Most recent theatre credits include Harry Potter and the Cursed Child (Palace Theatre) & 42nd Street (Theatre Royal Drury Lane).

Amara Okereke is Polly. Most recent theatre credits include Les Miserables (Queen’s Theatre) & Oklahoma (Chichester Festival Theatre).

Issy Van Randwyck is Lady Brockhurst. Most recent theatre credits include Rough Crossing (UK tour), Fascinating Aida (International tour) & The Go Between (UK tour). She will be appearing in the upcoming film adaptation of Blithe Spirit.
