De musicalproductie rond de feestdagen in de Menier Chocolate Factory is dit jaar Leonard Bernstein’s musical uit 1956 ‘Candide’ en is te zien van 22 november 2013 tot en met 22 februari 2014.

De regie wordt gevoerd door Matthew White en de overige creatives zijn Adam Cooper (choreografie) Paul Farnsworth (decor en kostuums) Paul Anderson (lichtontwerp) Gareth Owen (geluidsontwerp).

De cast is nog niet bekend gemaakt.

From Westphalia to the far reaches of the New World, Candide’s journey of discovery is anything but dull. Through anguish, happiness, loss and love this is a whirlwind adventure that seeks to prove ‘life is happiness indeed’. Leonard Bernstein’s joyous musical romp features the classics ‘Glitter and Be Gay’ and ‘Make Our Garden Grow’

Additional lyrics are by Stephen Sondheim, John Latouche, Lillian Hellman and Dorothy Parker.

De voorverkoop is inmiddels geopend. De hoofdrollen worden vertolkt door Fra Fee (Candide), Cassidy Janson (Paquette), Ben Lewis (Governor/Vanderdendur), Scarlett Strallen (Cunegonde) en David Thaxton (Maximilian).

Met James Dreyfus als Dr Pangloss en Jackie Klune als Old Lady is de cast voor ‘Candide’ compleet. Dreyfus speelde onder andere in ‘Cabaret’ en ‘The Producers’, Clune is bekend van ‘9 to 5’ en ‘Billy Elliot’.

Even een tip voor de mensen die nog gaan boeken. De voorstelling wordt ‘in the round’ gespeeld en niet alleen op de vloer maar ook op niveau’s achter het publiek aan drie zijden van het auditorium. Zorg dat je boekt op plaatsen aan de kant met de stoelnummers 1 t/m 16. Aan die kant wordt niet achter het publiek gespeeld en hoef je dus niet moeilijk te doen met omkijken naar de acteurs. Toevalligerwijs zat ik aan die zijde en heb alles perfect kunnen zien.
