Bij het plannen van de voorstellingen voor Londen kwam ik de nieuwe musical ‘Romantics Anonymous’ tegen die vanaf 20 oktober 2017 te zien is in het Sam Wanamaker Playhouse, onderdeel van Shakespeare’s Globe. Het script en de regie is van Emma Rice, de huidig artistiek leider van de Globe, en teksten en muziek van Christopher Dimond en Michael Kooman. De musical is gebaseerd op de film Les Emotifs Anonymes.

Ik heb inmiddels een kaartje geboekt voornamelijk door de namen in de cast waaronder Carly Bawden, Joanna Riding en Lauren Samuels.

Angélique makes beautiful chocolates, carefully infused with all the emotion that seems to overwhelm her in daily life. Jean-René runs a chocolate factory that is running out of steam, rather like his own existence. Both seek help from the usual sources: Jean-René favours self-help tapes and Angélique joins a support group, Les à‰motifs Anonymes.

Romantics Anonymous is an unusual and tender love story in which the obstacles to happiness are not the usual external barriers, but those sneaky little ones we know all too intimately: the ones within.
